I didn't know Bob during high school but many years later his wife Gloria and I worked together. We all became  friends. Bob was Asssistant Chief of Police by then and I called him on not  using his seat belt in his Crown Victoria when we  went out together for pizza. He never missed a beat when he deadpanned back to me, "My  ---   is velcroed to the seat !"  He knew it wasn't a car accident  he had to worry about.   I'll never forget driving down 63rd on my way home from work, seeing the lights of emergency vehicles down 22nd Ave  where Bob lived and knowing I'd lost another friend. It was way too soon to say good bye to one of the good guys.............................

I sat in front of Bob in Jr High--Ms Meiers the Latin teacher was our HR teacher. We sat in back and pulled pranks occasionally. He had a "hot" car and good lookin' lady friends. I never dreamed he would become Asst Chief of Police. It was a shock to hear he passed so young--cops have a lot of stress.

I only knew Bob for a short time, but we had a lot of fun together and he will always hold a special place in my memories. Bob was the first guy that introduced me to the sand dunes and drinking parties and it sure would be nice to revisit just one of those nights again.
