Ken Hansen and I met in 1961 when we were seniors at Mary D. Bradford HS. After graduation, we both attended the UW-Extension Center in Kenosha for two years. We became engaged in 1964 and were married in 1965.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 during the Vietnam War and after Basic Training was transferred to the AFB in Caribou, Maine (a few miles from the Canadian border) one of the coldest places in the U.S.

We were given base housing in Presque Isle, Maine, a few miles south of Caribou, and lived there for two years until he got orders to go to Japan in Nov. of 1968. Here is a photo of us on New Year's Eve in Presque Isle.
Within a couple of days after he got his transfer orders, my mother died and I found out I was pregnant with our first child. It was a tough time for me emotionally. I moved back to Kenosha and lived with my dad until I was able to join Ken in Japan in Feb. 1969 where our first child, Kris, was born in May. We lived off-base in a rented house in a Japanese neighborhood. It was quite an experience. Below is a photo of Ken holding Kris in front of our Japanese rental unit.

Ken received an honorable discharge from the AF in December 1969 and we moved back to Kenosha.

Ken went back to school on the GI Bill and graduated in 1973 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Here's a photo that was taken at his graduation celebration.
He was hired by American Motors after his graduation.

Together we had 3 beautiful children: Kris (born in Japan in 1969), Greg (born in 1976) and Liz (born in 1978).

In 1985 we were divorced and I moved from Wisconsin to California. A few years later, Ken accepted a position with Chrysler in New Castle, Indiana, where he lived until his death.

Ken and I remained friends throughout the years.  He was a good man and a wonderful father.

Ken passed away on Dec. 1, 2010 after a prolonged illness. We all miss him and take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. I have put together a photo album on Facebook of My Memories of Ken:

Thanks Carol for the pictures ~ I went to grade school, Sheridan Rd. and Prairie Lane with Ken, so I knew him a long time.  He was a great guy.   Sharon Haag Goddard
