Larry Sommers

Retired in 2009 after 23 years with the Public Affairs Office of the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs. Spent more than six years as editor of The Congregationalist, quarterly magazine of the Congregational Way. Retired from that retirement job in January 2016 to concentrate on writing. My historical novel, Price of Passage, was published in August 2022 by DX Varos Publishing and republished in 2025 by Three Towers Press, which also published Izzy Strikes Gold!, a middle-grades novel, in 2024. I have also published several short stories, post a weekly blog, and speak at writers' conferences and author events.
I travel as much as possible with my wife, Joelle, and spend as much time as possible with our daughter Katie and grandchildren, Elsie, age 16, and Tristan, 13.

One time Ed Carroll, Randy Hansen, and I were kicked out of lunchtime study hall by Mr. Huberty--for talking or making too much noise or something. The sentence was "for the rest of the year," but we figured out that since it was already mid-December, we could go back to study hall after the Christmas/New Year's break. So for a week or two in December, we took our brown bags down to the harbor. We ate our lunches in the brisk weather sitting on the rocks under the Sixth Avenue bridge and tossed our bread crusts to the gulls.
